LYRICAL/ CONTEMPORARY (Ages 9 +)
Lyrical Jazz is a blend of ballet and jazz dance. This class focuses on balance, posture, strength, and technique as well as portraying emotion through dance. It is a unique dance form that uses movement to interpret the meaning of the music and convey emotion. Choreography is usually expressive, enthralling, and delicate all at the same time. It tends to be graceful and unpredictable. When the music's tone is angry or frustrated there are sharp movements. When it is peaceful, the movements are flowing. Classes will be a mixture of both Ballet and Jazz technique and will emphasize movement quality and expression. Contemporary dance is a style that discards the limitations of traditional ballet and jazz, and favors movement deriving from the expressions of inner feeling. This form of dance allows free natural movements while still using technique learned in ballet and or jazz. This distinctive type of dance creates a language with the use of posture, body weight and movements. Students who would like to participate in this class must take both ballet and jazz.
